When you pick up a good mystery/thriller and you can't put it down, but you also don't want the book to end, you know you are reading a great book. Robert Crais knows how to write and knows how to develop plots, develop characters that are believable and he knows how to twists plots and keep you guessing until the end in this book. Max Holman finds himself leaving prison only to find out his son, a young LAPD police officer, was killed just before Holman left prison. Holman tries to adjust to the life of an ex-con, but also feels that he needs to find out why his son (who he barely ever knew anyway) was killed right before his release from prison. Holman meets up with an ex-FBI agent who had arrested Holman 10 years ago and Pollard (the ex-FBI agent) and Holman begin to uncover evidence that his son and three other LAPD officers were killed for a particular reason. The dialogue is excellent, the constant twists/turns of the plot keep you reading, the characters are excellent and the book is a winner from beginning to end. Do yourself a favor and read this book!
